ChatGPT Ether is designed to handle only the minimum data required for its features. It does not read cookies, does not read browsing history, does not request all_urls, and does not upload or sync full ChatGPT conversation transcripts.

What the extension reads

When you open a https://chatgpt.com/* page, the extension reads page structure and message nodes related to its features. This is used to build the current conversation timeline, search within the current conversation, locate messages, star important messages, save conversation metadata, insert prompts, and show diagnostics.

Locally stored data

• Saved conversation index and notes
• Starred-message metadata and short snippets
• Extension settings
• Timeline and floating panel state
• Google Drive sync state

Data not stored or uploaded

• Full ChatGPT chat transcripts
• Full assistant replies
• Attachments, images, screenshots, or Canvas content
• Large raw conversation JSON
• Browsing history or cookies

Google Drive sync

Google Drive sync is optional and manual. The extension uses the Google Drive API only after you explicitly authorize it and click a sync action. Sync data is stored in your own Google Drive appDataFolder.

Allowed sync data includes prompts, folder structure, conversation index, notes, starred-message metadata, settings, and necessary time metadata. Full chat transcripts and full assistant replies are not synced.

Third-party services

ChatGPT Ether does not send your data to third-party search APIs, analytics services, or advertising services. If you use Google Drive sync, the allowed sync data is sent to Google Drive after your explicit authorization.

Diagnostics

The diagnostics panel displays extension runtime state such as page recognition, conversation ID, message counts, timeline state, starred-message count, sync status, and extension version. Diagnostics are not uploaded automatically.
